Confidential Recovery CEO and Homeless Expert Scott H. Silverman appeared on Fox 5 to discuss Governor Newsom’s order to clear encampments and the many problems the order has created. Questions the order has raised, according to Scott, are “Where would they go, what resources do they have to access, and how do we best support the transition from where we are to where we want to go.
First and foremost, and intervention, second, an assessment, and then the support that’s necessary, because ‘one size does not fit all.'” Scott goes on to point out that some unhoused people are struggling with a substance use disorder (including many Veterans), and their needs are different than families who have lost their housing due to employment, etc.
When asked is there anything viewers can do? Scott answered, “Volunteering is important, philanthropic support, altruistic support, working through faith-based communities, I know the county has a website to get involved.” The website that Scott is talking about is the San Diego County “End Homelessness” website.
