Scott H. Silverman, who has been involved in San Diego’s homeless struggle for many years, recently appeared on KUSI’s Good Morning San Diego to discuss San Diego’s recently announced policy of ticketing the homeless.
While the policy of giving people who aren’t realistically able to appear in court a ticket is inhumane on its face, it’s yet another opportunity for our law enforcement and first responders to make contact with our unhoused population and offer them opportunities and services and incentivize them to get off the street. There are some good organizations to point them to, like Sunbreak Ranch, We See You, and Lucky Duck.
Scott reminds us that homelessness is not a disease , it’s someone’s mom, sister, brother, aunt or uncle.
