SAN DIEGO – San Diego has recently announced that it is investing more funds into fighting fentanyl, which is a full-scale public health crisis. The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a public health strategy aimed at addressing overdoses.
Scott H. Silverman appeared on KUSI’s Good Evening San Diego show to discuss the challenges that the public faces, as well as the dangers to law enforcement officers who are increasingly getting accidentally poisoned by fentanyl as they encounter it in the course of protecting and serving.
“A little over 400 people are dying across our country each day due to accidental overdose,” said Scott. Scott then discussed the benefit of having more resources to respond to the continual climb of overdose deaths. The funds can be used to purchase and distribute life-saving Narcan, which is a drug that can be injected into the nostrils of overdosing parties that can often restore normal breathing.
